Late night coneys after drinking beers is a magical pairing. At the bottom of our monk illustration, you'll find a Detroit staple... coney dogs with everything. Chili? Yup. Diced onions? Of course. Mustard? You gotta. More than one? You betcha, we've been drinking.
In downtown Detroit you'll find two of the most famous original coney islands... Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island. Located next door to each other, each originally founded by two brothers. Some say it began as a friendly start-up, others rumor it was over a dispute. Either way, now you gotta choose a side. Just like having to choose Pepsi or Coke. American might be more well-known having additional locations in Las Vegas and the Detroit Zoo. But good luck getting a seat at Lafayette at midnight on a Saturday. We write this shortly after the passing of former Lafayette owner, George Keros, son of the original founder, who in the 90's transferred ownership to the companies employees. Cheers to the Keros coney dog legacy and for creating a historic meeting place for beer drinkers to unite!
